Of the three dolls in the Mythical Muse series, she is probably the most disliked. I think people were expecting Game of Thrones-style when it was most likely going to be pastels based on the first two dolls in the series. They were also expecting Enchanted Mermaid detail without remembering that she retailed for $250 when new back in 2001. She was not a $75 doll even then.
Is she disappointing in some ways? Yes, she is. I won't deny that. The skirt is probably the biggest issue and yes, Mermaid Enchantress (the 2nd doll in this series) had a sequined skirt However she didn't have wings and to keep the doll at that price point, something had to be cut somewhere. Also, had Mattel made the skirt out of plether, collectors would complain about that because in time? It will most likely flake and fall apart.
Could she have had more design elements? Yes. But in 2020, this is what you get for $75. It's not 2001 any longer.
In the end, do I love her? No. Do I like her enough to keep her? Yes, I do. For me, that's what it really comes down to in the end.
