Congrats! This is very cool.
While I’ve known about this lady for some time, she’s eluded me for years. More than I care to count, actually. The Fall for Barbie Festival was held September 10-12, 1993, in Pleasanton, CA and put on by the Barbie Club of Alameda, CA. These are the same people who would put on the “Barbie: The Queen of Hearts Goes Wild” festival two years later with the truly wild Queen of Hearts doll in her slightly risqué (for the time) fashion.
Fall For Barbie is a cross between Greek goddess/earth mother, and a bit hippie chick-influenced. She’s also one of the less exotic dolls this club produced for their events. Her dried flowers aren’t holding up very well after all these years, but the rest of the doll is in excellent shape and her dress still has the festival tag sewn on. The only other blonde I’ve ever seen was missing the tag, as apparently, they weren’t sewn in very well.
There were two versions of this doll, the Caucasian (which I was able to find recently) and an African-American version, which I’ve seen but missed out on once in an auction. There is also a matching tote bag and pin, neither of which I have but am still looking for. Though I did manage to get the paper doll set as well as the festival program. The program has physical, printed photos taped inside of it, which I love. It’s a great way to document what conventions and mini-ventions were like before the slick and glam internet age.
The festival booklet also came with a drink menu flyer for the 1995 Queen of Hearts Goes Wild festival inside. It is such a cool thing because I imagine most of these were simply tossed away. I love how the different drinks were named after the popular dolls of the time.
I also apologize for the varying size of photos. I took them with my cell phone (which I never do) because my camera battery was dying. Even with my photo editing software, they are still a bit wonky.
