That's hilarious!! I see junk way overpriced on ebay all time too
I usually got to flea markets in the spring through fall, though it's very hit and miss with finding anything. This year, every weekend it's been humid or raining or I've had something else going on. In the spring, I also had scooter trouble so that kept me away. Well, today was gorgeous and I finally made it to a flea market. All I bought was a NRFB Santa Kelly as I think a friend is looking for one. If not, I'll swipe her bendleg body. LOL
I saw two dealers with very ratty, over-priced vintage Barbies and I had to keep from laughing out loud. The first one had a titian Bubble Cut with a chunk out of her neck, a bite mark on one arm, and fingers missing from the other. She was in a small metal doll trunk with a plastic bag inside. I peeked in the bag, thinking maybe there were some clothes. A few newer pieces and a brownette TnT with no lashes and a sprung leg who needed a bath and an OK brunette Hair Fair head on a body that was missing fingers on both hands. The woman said they were 1940s Barbies. LOL She then asked if I was a collector and I said yes. She said someone came to her yard sale asking for Barbies and when she brought them out, the customer said she wanted dolls for her granddaughter to play with and these were "collector's items." She wanted $50 for everything. I told her I'd think about it. It didn't take much time to think. LOL
Another dealer had three cases, including a Barbie and Francie Color Magic one with some splits. I opened each one to see if there was anything inside. The CM case had a blonde Quick Curl Miss America with hair like she stuck her finger in a light socket. There also was a Fashion Queen with very pale lips, wearing a blonde wig, and missing some fingers. I asked how much they were and he said different prices. So I asked about the FQ and he said "$20. She's from 1956." Needless to say, I passed on her too.
