Our drummer, Randy Seol was jazz trained and had a lighter touch. It was kind of remarkable to me that he could wail away on a drum solo and not be pounding it out. His influence kept us from really going for it...the rest of us needed the volume to achieve that effect.
We never really toyed with our amps, but, Steve Rabe who was a guitar player in Thee Sixpence (the pre sac band), used to take the guys amps apart before and after rehearsals to tweak them. It eventually paid off for him in the form of his own amp company, SWR.We did however get Randy to open up on songs like World's On Fire.

John Lennon sajd he considered Ticket To Ride to be Heavy Metal for its time.I know the Kinks and Yardbirds certainly were thought to be most explosive then. What were your first impressions of people "cranking it up"?Did you fix your amps a certain way like Dave Davies cut a razor hole for fuzz effect.....watch a documentary called "Legends of Laurel Canyon" on YoyTube.Might stir up some fine memories of yoyrs......t
