That didn't stop us from experimenting but it keep us on track (so to speak again).
Incense and peppermints was originally an instrumental until producer Frank Slay said one of the writers in his publishing company stable had a song title that he thought would fit the music. That was John Carter and he would go on to write the lyrics.
One thing that occurred more than on a few occasions was our manager Bill Holmes' interfering with song lyrics. Actually a verse for I&P was left off. Strawberries Mean Love never had the word strawberries in it until Holmes came to the studio and made us add it. They shortened Birds In My Tree by cutting a verse they thought was a drug reference. They changed the entire lyric of World's On fire...It was originally called Colours On The Wall. Randy Seol changed the Lyrics of Sitting On A Star. It was originally called Lying Alone In An Orange Tree Grove.
Randy also changed the lyrics of Curse Of The Witches but kept the title and the first line. I changed the music to that one. Steve Bartek wrote the first version of the song.
Billy Corgan told us that he likes to go into the studio and record his songs in different ways, like country, rock psychedelic, etc.

Just recently saw a Johnny Echols interview and he was recalling how "Alone Again Or" was originally intended as,believe it or not,a country bluegrass number till the band decided to go with a Flamenco feel Echols was hinting it during rehearsals. Are there any SAC tunes I might know that were initially approached with different musical style. We're there any unreleased recordings you wish you HAD put out?I'm a big fan of all that "Beatles Anthology" stuff....
