What I did with Season and mushroom was change it from major to minor.
Generally my method for writing was inadvertent. I would try to find chords that sounded good together. I still do that. I have a recent song called Monsters where I did just that, but this time I had the lyrics to write the music for. My long time friend David Gluck wrote the lyrics first. That gives me kind of an advantage, the meter is set.
