On the Beach Boys tours they asked us if we had any friends that wanted to go on tour as roadies. I got my two high school friends David Gilbert and Dwight Harrington. We had all just graduated high school so it was a dream come true for all. Mark Weitz got his best friend, Bob Hathcock to be our road manager. Lee and Ed got a friend of their's named Bruce (can't remember last name) but he was kind of a maniac...bad temper wise....he once punched out a window of our van to avoid punching Gary Lovetro who we had recently mad our tour manager. The Buffalo Springfield brought their friends, Charley Brown and Chris Sarns. The Beach Boys had a few guys...plus they had Stephen Desper doing the sound. The band members were members of Local 47 but I don't think the crew were union.
Seems to me Beatles roadies and personal assistants Neil Aspinall and Map Evans were indescribably essential towards continuity in the Beatles day to day affaurs.Did SAC have a likewise trusty and dutiful staff? Was there union labor employed as assistants in different towns in your 67-68 Beach Boys tour?
