Ah... Marty Balin; he could pen love ballads, with a poignant quality approaching the same realm inhabited by Gene Clark, Justin Hayward and Lee Hazelwood. Personally, my favorite Jefferson Airplane song is "Triad"--which David Crosby wrote. Of the songs Marty composed, "Today" immediately comes to mind as the one I love best. It sounds so passionate and sincere, even after listening to it a myriad times. My favorite Airplane album is "Crown Of Creation."
Viewed the video of Ed King; a snapshot of the man and the musician, with his beloved wife and canines, in a home that could only exude love and warmth.
Hey guys!
Firstly, much belated sympathies for the passing of Ed King.I was certainly saddened by the news not only as a fan,but also because I personally had the distinct honor on chatting with him once or twice here on this site.Recently,I've heard some Skynyrd on local classic rock radio and have even deeper appreciations for his bass on "Free Bird" as well as co-writing and guitar on "Sweet Home Alabama".I imagine that just as did the four Beatles, the members past and present of SAC did indeed enjoy some unique experiences together as a well functioning touring and recording musical combo....did you have any personal interactions with the late great Marty Balin? What's your favorite Airplane song and album?
