Just as much as the 60's counter culture has been lumped into one basket I believe the same is true of the view of the so called establishment.
There just are no absolutes when it comes to the human experience.
It's the extremes on all ends of the spectrum that garner most of the attention. Somehow that becomes the status quo.
As much as psychedelics may have played a part during the 60's revolution of mankind, it was more of a manifest destiny that was going to happen no matter what...It had to happen.
Mass media also plays a huge role in the shaping of our existence.
IPHONES, IPADS et al, are the drugs of todays gen.
Each gen has their own torch to bear. The morals are forever changing since the beginning of mankind. We evolve.

: You know what I really can't stand? The way TV
: network news and the "Man" in
: general always depicted the members of the
: counterculture movement of the 60's as the
: villains in their plight against the
: establishment.What a smear campaign!They
: were out to stop a completely and totally
: unjust and even immoral war and THEY were
: the bad guys? The establishment press also
: had a way of misconstruing the whole LSD
: thing.According to the main stream press at
: the time, the drug was nothing but trouble as
: they would show pictures of those who had
: gone overboard with the drug and wound up
: sleeping on park benches in Golden Gate Park
: as if to say "This is DEFINIELTY what
: will happen to you.Nonsense!The
: psycho-tropic effects of the popular
: psychedelics at the time would differ from
: person to person depending on the mindset of
: the user as well as the environment in which
: it was taken. What was SAC's take on the main
: idiom of the youth of the times which
: obviously was to do their own thing and not
: just fall in line with the establishment and
: how their parents lived their lives at a
: similar age?A great example here would be
: the whole "Free Love
: thing".Suddenly,little or no taboos
: attached to things that if teens and early
: twenties types had done just a generation
: sooner, their parents may have wanted to tar
: and feather them.
