: Okay...Let's get down to business on this
: recording "G M Starshine"
: question! Seems that there is some
: discrepancy in facts floating around on this
: song. Ed said it best when he commented on
: how he HATED this tune and vehemently was
: against us having anything to do with
: it--not being the right "Fit" for
: our image was an understatement. I think
: most of us agreed...UNI records had
: approached the SAC (Me, Jimmy, Ed, Lee and
: Gene--the SAC in '69 Starshine 4th album
: period), and told us we are going to have to
: come up with an arrangement of Good Morning
: Starshine. As our eyes rolled back in the
: back of our head, We reluctantly arranged a
: track at their request complete with full
: background vocals and Jimmy Pitman singing
: lead. We tried our best on it! After all, we
: didn't want to blow it completely! I
: remember it being very time consuming. Uni
: had us under contract to do a forth album,
: so we were at their mercy to oblige! As far
: as live performing it? Most of us were
: embarrassed to sing it on stage-- so we
: might have a few time and quit. And I'm
: pretty Ed King WAS in the band. It was '69
: and Ed WAS in the line up, I think he just
: FORGOT (on purpose!!!lol)! Ed and I mixed
: down the 4th Starshine album. I remember
: distinctly as we took turns toggling the
: volume sliders on the mixing board as the
: DECCA studio engineer looked nervously down
: at our novice attempt to do a Stereo Mixdown
: for the first time on a brand new 16 channel
: board.
: Thanks for the compliment on the harmony's!
: I hope that clears up any
: questions..however, I do have to say that's
: my recollection. Some of the other band
: members may have another perspective. Even
: under the circumstances, we were relatively
: happy with the outcome of the track...
: Unfortunately "Oliver's" GMS
: version was launched unbeknownst to UNI( As
: it was clearly a much more Hipper and better
: arrangement) spoiled our attempt to get our
: version off the ground as Oliver's climbed
: up the charts. UNI, I feel dropped the ball
: on that one ( not knowing of the other
: release) and spoiled any chance of success.
: Shortly thereafter the '69 SAC group morphed
: into a 4 piece 1970 SAC ( right after I quit
: in Nov'69) as Ed King, Lee Freeman, Paul
: Marshall and Gene Gunnels carried on a few
: more years playing around the States. (and
: NOT playing GM Starshine ever again).
: Cheers,
: MSW

: Do you have any designs on performing
: "Good Morning Starshine" in your
: sets?I always felt this was one of the
: tracks where the band could truly exhibit
: its wonderful harmony prowess.I can tell
: from the finished product that you really
: worked hard at getting this one "just
: right". ( It was too "Kissy"
: for us, and felt we wood really catch some
: "Sh*t for recording this).
