Personally, I never thought a 'new world order' was on the brink, or that the spirit of love and music would inaugurate it. Too many televisions. However, I met many people who did believe it fervently. Still do.
The terrible event at Kent State drove a wedge deeper between factions that were already sadly divided. In that sense, it probably did strengthen what you might call the movement, but the movement's only clearly defined goal was to end the Vietnam War. Eventually, that was accomplished.
