Dennis was quite the hyperkinetic wild child. He was a daredevil on top of it all.
He always was mischievous. Always the prankster. If he couldn't find trouble it would find him.
But, he was a sensitive, retrospective and very creative guy. He was actually shy when it came to his singing, and he had a great voice. He had so much character when he sang. The story and lyric of a song would shine from him. The only problem was that he was overshadowed by both of his brother's soaring falsetto, angelic voices.
Brian already wasn't touring in those days. Carl handled his lead vocals as well as his own. God Only Knows was one of my favorites and so was Darlin.
Carl was the opposite of Dennis in many ways. But they both shared that shy, sensitive, creative side.
Here's a classic shot taken by our keyboard player Mark Weitz of me sitting between Dennis and Carl while Dennis was trying to learn the flute intro to Sloop John B.
We were on their private plane.
Both of the tours we did with them also included The Buffalo Springfield!
