back in the early 60s Dad had a 35 hp Johnson back in the OMC days when Johnson and Evenrude were identical except for the jackets. My Senior year,1962, the OMC 50 hp V4 motors came to Laura Walker and blew everybody out of the water for about 1 hour, then they had to have another 6 gal. |
of gas. Our 35 hp would run 3 hrs on 6 gal at water ski speeds (wide open till the skier got up, then throttle back to 25-30 mph to pull 2-3 skiers. With 35 hp the guys had to get up 1 at the time, the 50s could snatch 3 guys out of the hole at once, but, hey, that gas cost $.309 per gal plus oil. Six gal per hr was too expensive to run, But Sam and Sonny Monroe sold a bunch of them to "The Rich Boys". Monroe sold Johnson Sea Horse and, I
think Mercury. I think King Bros Firestone sold "Never-rude"!
