My dad was a DI back in the 60's and I can remember sitting in the DI's rec room and listening to all of them talking about beating some recruit or anothers ass when they got uppity(for want of a better word)out of line etc and would get in their face and cuss them out for everything under the sun. Most knew they were going to Vietnam and appreciated the toughening up so to speak. Now we have vindman's and such along with the trans and gays and whatever else and I bet china and russia are just busting a rib laughing at this foolishness as boot camp was/is supposed to toughen you up not pussy you down.I never was in but went through 14 years as a marine corp brat and let me tell ya my Dad didn't leave it at the office, tough but fair.He also taught us hunting and fishing skills and all three of us can shoot rifles and shotguns with anyone.Reading your post and reading that yesterday about the DI brought back all the memories of living through that period and it was good,God we were treated like royalty when we went on base with dad and even by ourselves because everyone knew Dad and even as a First Sergeant teaching at OCS in Quantico all the majors and captains saluted him because he was an instructor and they say rank hath its privileges.|
