John Stewart was a friend and brother-in-law to Daniel Boone. Hunting in Kentucky in 1769, they separated and John was never heard from again. Five years later while cutting the wilderness trail evidence of his body was found in a hollow sycamore tree near the old Rockcastle river crossing. Does anyone know any details about this story? In particular, I'm trying to find if John was buried at his death site or removed to his home in NC or possibly taken to Ft Boonesboro for a proper burial which the Boone custom for whites killed by the Indians during that time. Any help would be appreciated.
