Hive help

Posted by Billybookcase User icon on October 2, 2026, 5:18 pm

I've got a hive thingy on the wall for switching my heating on and off.
I presume I'm needing a hub to be able to control it via my phone?
Which hub would I need?
Please and thank you.

Fitting 5 hive thermostatic valves today. Do I connect to hub one by one as I fit them or fit all then connect to hub? Thanks in advance.

If you don't have a hub...

In that first picture I've got the first thingy to set the heating.
The second thingy in the picture is on the wall next to the boiler.
The last thingy in the picture I presume is the hub which I don't have.

Your installer might have forgotten to set it up: I'd give them a ring, they'll know if its function is performed by the wall unit as well.

Ooh I can turn my heating on just before I get in. Wake up lads, its technology for technology sake. We don't live in the Arctic circle, it takes 5 mins to get any house sorted.

Haha, mad take this. I’d argue it’s actually one of the few bits of easily available tech that’s made my life a bit better. House is temperature I want it all the time, heating set to come on in the winter before I’m up and out of bed so I don’t have to sit freezing.

Those old dials on boilers with a 24hr clock and a load of little pegs for when you want heating on or off - now THEY are fucking shit.

Ha ha no wonder my abacus business is failing. I'm branching out with my new venture. Its like that storage cloud. Its painting of cave walls, its a lot easier to see.

Has it got a thermostat on it? If so all you need is the app.

I've got the app but it's asking for a hub number.

Have you got a unit where you can adjust the temperature? If so then that's all you need.

Go on the Hive website or call their Helpline. It's absolutely boss being able to turn your heating on 45 minutes before you get home.

if its been wired in direct to the boiler and the hub attached unit and fixed to the wall nearby then your ok ..If its just been attached to the wall to be "asthetic" then you need a hub to link to the app which usually is part of the package when you get it ???.... A Hub connects your Hive devices together so you can control them from your smartphone. It's a seperate unit that plugs into your broadband router but I think some newer boilers have it built in

Lurking proudly for years ..If im not here Ill be doing it on Bluesky @Paulow4
