Kinnear strikes me as very similar to that Woodward fella at United: very competent at bringing in sponsorship and other revenues, but not a fucking clue about football.

He did a lot at Leeds in terms of the ground etc etc, but famously tried to rebrand them with the worst badge you've ever seen.

So who carries the can?

Kinnear as CEO ?
The person who is head of “player trading” ?
The technical director ?
The person who is head of scouting and recruitment. ?
Moyes ?

Who actually speaks to the player and agent and sells him the club and its ambition (ok we will gloss over that), makes them feel wanted and they are going to be part of something.

This was probably something Kenwright was good at even if the player came away thinking “who is this Dave Hickson bloke he keeps going on about”.

The cliche “success has many fathers but failure is a bastard “ seems to apply to the current clowns.

The only thing I can think of might be that they want to keep powder dry for a new manager next summer.

If they are serious about us and want us to be successful then they will need to splash the cash next summer - and find a striker (or two) & lb and rb in January (loans would do it as long as the players are good).

That explains why Moyes hasn’t had a new contract then. Nothing to do with performance or succession planning, just purely they’ve binned the HR department and they’ve go nobody to do it and will probably try and hire a HR manager the day before his contract expires and then get them to renew Moyes deal on their first day.
