EFC transfer strategy

I'm at the point where i want us to stop pretending players can't be bought. From now in, if there's even whiff of interest for a player, i want us to come out and stick a stupid price on their head.

'If someone wants to buy Ndiaye, they'll need to pay £100m+. Players have been sold for that amount and in our view Illi is better than them'.

Instead we seem to quietly pretend players aren't for sale and then accept offers that are well below what we should be aiming for.

Even Garner for £65m. We should come out and say we value him higer than Anderson so we want a fee higher than he went for.

Our search for a right back worries me about our scouting network.

Going in for Tete and Maitland-Niles. Would Bournemouth or Brighton be in for these fellas?

No they’d have found the next £50m right back from abroad for about £7m. Why don’t we have it in us to do that if we don’t have the cash to compete with the wealthier clubs?

That Tete has played for Fulham for about 5 years and I’ve hardly noticed him.

That’s what burns my head out the most about the whole saga. We want to sign players for under 20 million. Fine, if that’s our strategy, it’s a good one. For it to work you need extensive scouting networks to identify young up and coming talent from the lesser known leagues, and you need a manager willing to invest playing time in these players whilst they develop and adjust.

It might be the clash between Moyes and the rest of the committee, but we seem to want proven premier league experienced players who are ready to go immediately, which again, fine if that’s your strategy, but in that case, you’re generally shopping in the 40 million+ bracket to get anyone of decent quality. Because we are trying for proven PL players, but also trying to meet that under 20 mil threshold, it just means we scrap around trying to sign over the hill lads and second choice lads who aren’t very good, because they are the only ones within that budget, who also know the premier league.

Our record signing for this summer is an initial 18 mil. That is wild in the context of fees now and the fact we paid 50 for Sig near a decade ago.

Aznou is a prime example of the disconnect. Signed for a good price, last season clearly too small to play premier league football so we should have already had a network of teams across Europe and the UK at differing levels so that he had somewhere to go to play football every week and learn and grow.

This season he has bulked up, looks better however doesn't have the match experience. So now hes gone out on loan to Málaga who are going to prop up the table, meanwhile we are short of a left back.

They couldn't have managed that worse if they'd tried.

It hard to separate the old from the new regime, but how many young players have been mismanaged over the years. Cracking prospects like Kean and Lookman. I'm looking at O'Brien today who should have been at centre half the entire pre-season. Meanwhile he's watching Keane get more game time.

Patterson another one, if he wasn't fit for the premier League but we had hope then he should have been loaned to a championship side. Or just fucking sold and replaced.

We seem unable to do more than a few things at once at this club.

We had 2 clubs keen on signing N’Diaye both seemingly flush with money, and he had 3 years left on his contract.

It takes a particular skill as a negotiator to sell him for what most people think as under value.

Maybe we really are desperate and clubs can smell it.

I was going to say that doesn't take into account the Spurs premium as they apparently offered £10m more than Utd plus higher wages for Fernandes to make sure they got their man, until I realised of course that we agreed a fee of £60m with them!

The manner in which they've gone about it strangely mirrors my own way of working when presented with multiple tasks and a deadline.

Get something done fairly quickly for a bit of a dopamine rush then sit back and procrastinate until it's time to do everything else in a mad panic because the deadline's looming.

we needed to sell at £65mill andd those clubs got wind of it.

What I want to know is why did we need to sell at 65mill?

it's about £20 mill short of what should've been asking.

Unless there was a sell on clause we were trying to not activate I don't see why it would be that figure

It’s been widely reported that there was no release clause but N’Daiye wouldn’t sign a new contract without one at around the £45-50m mark.

I think if there had been a release clause he would have gone weeks ago.

The problem is if you agree to sell to Spurs for £60m it doesn’t exactly strengthen your hand when City come knocking.
