If he throws a second string out tonight and they get turned over...

Posted by santo_1878 User icon on August 26, 2026, 2:25 pm

...do you think they'd sack him?

Not intending to cause WW3 here, just asking.

For the record i can't stand the cunt but hope we win 10-0, even if the answer was "yes", before yer start.

I suspect the owners care less about the Carabao Cup than even Moyes does.

Preston are an absolute shambles and could easily go down this season.

You could put out 11 Mickey Ks and be more dandy than Seb Horsley.

They are droppings, lads.

I doubt it as there just isn't an outstanding candidate out there now ready to replace him. Howe is the obvious choice but I think we'd need to be in dire shit for the club to want to go there right now.

he will need to have us bottom three going into december for him to get the early shove I think. won’t do the general vibes any good tho obviously.

why are you so argumentative? this is obvious stuff

If he does that he will lose any remaining goodwill he still has, and he deserves to go

He's had a grace period to stabilise us which he did despite missing a golden opportunity to go further than mere stabilisation.

This year needs to be better both in terms of cup runs and league position, not one or the other as he implied yesterday.

Agreed. But realistically I don't think he will be sacked if we go out tonight, it will be if we struggle in the league in the coming months. Has to be a push for europe minimum or the next fella will be in.

I'm not so sure for the reasons I have given in my response to BBB below.

Hopefully we twat Preston tonight and Bournemouth on Saturday so it's a non story anyway.

I don't want him sacked, but only if we are improved from last season but he isn't doing himself any favours with his current demeanour.

There's zero reason why you'd need to put a 2nd string team out.

Correct, but then he gets targeted for not playing the Alcaraz, Beto, Dibling and Aznous of the squad. Ideally you'd think half of the 2nd string should still be enough to beat Preston, but we have form for playing weakened sides in potential banana skins and going out.

No chance.

They'd only sack him after a disastrous run of results.

He's not going to get sacked for an early cup exit.

Agreed in isolation, was thinking more with the dynamics of late and the memory of last year.

They've got no intention of sacking him.

He's almost certainly going to see his contract out.

Who sacks a manager for a League Cup exit anyway?

A club looking for an excuse due to the internal undercurrent of animosity that is obvious to everyone when either Moyes or the Angus fella speak.

The option of a ready made manager waiting in the wings (Howe) will increase those chances of him getting the bullet.

I've supported, or argued against the level of stick he has got since he came back, but the constant level of negativity and walking out after that Sunderland game has made me reconsider, I'm sure there are lots of others as well.

We won't struggle near the bottom, we comfortably won our opening match, the transfer window is open until next week.

He's going nowhere.
