I’ve got a horrible feeling that the brains trust inside the club think that we san sell O’Brien without getting a new CB:

CBs - Branth, Tarks with cover from Keane and Norgaard

RBs - new signing with cover from Rohl

What a carry on.

Wether O'Brien wants to play RB or not is immaterial really as a RB is (surely) imminent, his out of position spot for a season and a half is gone anyway, Moyes I imagine won't drop Tarkowski for him so he literally won't be playing, hes 25 and signed from Lyon, he's not some kid now.

Once the RB comes in (!) in my mind it would have been perfect time to play Tarkowski less an put O'Brien in his preferred position were he's hardly put a foot wrong, an what I thought was the whole point in signing him in the first place.

But this is Everton.

Branthwaite and O'Brien should be first choice centre backs

Moyes can't do that though because the soft get has Tarkowski as captain

Tarkowski is finished. Captain? Ffs.

5 minutes into the new season and he's fùcking up. Finger pointing after that. If O'brien can't get in the side in front of him I'm not surprised he wants out.

Yep

He must’ve asked to leave as he should be a shoe in for a regular spot by the end of the season.

What happens if Branthwaite gets injured - tarky & Keane?

Agree with all of this. It's crackers if true. And what a reward for JoB playing out of position for a season.

In the rare games he got a start at CB he was putting in 9/10 performances. As is said below, he's 25, came from a French club and absolutely deserves to be starting with JB although there'd be rotation in there meaning Tarks would get time on the pitch. Insane to be selling him, not least as he's worth more than any club will want to give us for him.

As you’ve pointed out previously.

Branthwaite will get broken again because he has do half of Tarkowskis work for him as well.

It would be interesting to see the corresponding statistics for when Michael Keane plays.

It's so ridiculously insane it's almost believable with this club. That said, and we're obviously all living in a world of guesswork, if Moyes has asked him to play fullback and he's told him to fuck off, then he deserves to be transfer listed, whether you sympathise with him or not.

In short there's loads of sides to every story, if indeed there's any truth in it.

Re: o’brien for sale

Posted by benefitfraudster User icon on August 24, 2026, 9:08 pm, in reply to "Re: o’brien for sale"

Depends on the context. If O'Brien has told Moyes he sees himself as a centre half and Moyes has refused to sign a right back in the last three transfer windows then I think O'Brien is within his rights to tell him to fuck off.

Re: o’brien for sale

Posted by santo_1878 User icon on August 24, 2026, 9:16 pm, in reply to "Re: o’brien for sale"

Yeah I get there's loads of scenarios potentially at play here, I just meant more you play where you're told to play by the manager as an employee of the club, regardless of how big a massive stubborn fist the manager may or may not be. That's about the only scenario where I'd understand transfer listing him. You can't have players telling a manager where they're playing, even if we all agree with him in this instance!

If he wants to go because he can't see Moyes picking him we need to get a replacement in asap.Otherwise we are an injury away from Tarks and Keane.

Re: o’brien for sale

Posted by Zuma User icon on August 24, 2026, 8:33 pm, in reply to "Re: o’brien for sale"

We’re an injury away from Tarks and Keane regardless as Moyes has Keane ahead of JoB in his pecking order sadly.

Norgaard is officially described as a defensive mid/centre back so maybe he's seen as an option for CB cover ?

Am I imagining it (and it was a tough weekend so I might be) that Rohl has said to Moyes that he wants to play there?

I’d like to see him and Branthwaite together… not sure they have played any games at CB together but they are both giants and fairly quick too!

They've played together 6 times,4 wins,2 draws.

He's not getting Branthwaites place obviously (other than injury which isn't out of the question), and Tarkowski is captain. Needs Tarkowski to have a poor run of form early season or an injury really. Rock and a hard place for the lad.

Can always understudy at RB*

Tarkowski costs us a goal a month minimum. His shit backhesder set Palace up In the third minute. But for Pickford’s save we’d have been one down and struggling to get a draw.
Plays the hard man and costs us penalties, too. He should be on the bench ready to fill in, not the undroppable captain

The mighty sloth brothers did so well together last season I suppose…

Tarky has strengths, blocks everything, wins his duals, wins a lot of headers etc, but you need to compliment him with someone who can move faster than him. Keane is slower than him!
