The coming season

Posted by Beldale blue User icon on August 16, 2026, 8:27 pm

Based on what I seen yesterday and the bits and pieces of other pre-season games.
There’s enough quality//numbers in midfield to keep us out of trouble. Plus we have Pickford. A full season out of Branthwaite would be massive.
The lack of quality up front and both full back positions will hinder us.
I’m going for a solid tenth place finish.
This obviously could change with incomings/outgoings.

More far reaching insight as it comes.

Dan Friedkin likes this. No need for any more investment, the club will tick over nicely, do nothing spectacular but the asset won't suffer from the spectre of relegation and most of the fans will be OK with that....job done.

In a rare moment of originality, Moyes bins both strikers to the bench after a dull first couple of games - and innovates the first 3-7 formation.

At the back he plays O’Brien Branthwaite and Tarkowski.

Then his 7 are

George. Garner. Ndiaye. Armstrong. Hackney. KDH. Dibling.

Everton win every game till the end of the season and end up runaway champs.

I reckon we have loads of very good midfielders that will get us top 6*

*If Beto and Barry continue to improve

“Dibling will be ace for us”.

With that formation Beto and Barry don't need to improve because they are not playing*

*which may, in itself, be an improvement

That was my serious bit.

Meaning…. If we can get some improvement up top, we have enough quality in midfield to make top 6, or better imo

“Dibling will be ace for us”.

Yer probably midtable again. As half the league gets into Europe we should be within a shout of that again.

We wont win the league or go down, so for the love of god please have a fuckin go in the cups and the derby.

We should just hire a manager who wants to win trophies. There was a high profile one available this summer, too.

It’s almost as if trophies are not a priority for our owners

Pep was always going to take a break after leaving City though.

Unless England came in for him I reckon.

I'd be delighted to see Branthwaite get through the remainder of summer, one season at a time.

Hackney for Moyes

My main worry will still be scoring enough goals.

Even yesterday when playing well and on top you never really fancy us to score when we are attacking.

Agree mid table again.

Yeah, A lukaku or even a Yakabu puts this team in the European positions in my opinion.

Its not just the striker though, all the best or better teams have 2 wide men who get either 10-15 assists or goals each. We have undoubted potential out there but Dibling is very raw, George has never got a competetive goal or assist for us, and Ndiaye simply needs to return far more on that front for his ability. Johnson has in the past shown he has goals, but its one of the reasons getting Grealish back is so important for me. Proven quality, he had 6 assists by December last year. A full season he will have double that and a few goals - we need at least 1 of the others to step up and match that, but again Grealish probably helps as he creates chances for the others as well.
