Taking over greenland is the narrative, the slight of hand.

Doing previously undoable deals because of a new threat changing the overall complection of things is the actual goal, gain a new leverage. Then rape the country for resources, gain certain rights over shipping and military/defense zones all whilst not having the hassle of being responsible for the country adds up a lot more.

China has a lot of interests in Greenalnd too. The arctic is in a state of change, meltin ice caps creating new more reliable shipping route (the new silk road kinda thing)

The Greenlanders themselves would like full independence from Denmark but that certainly doesnt include then becoming a part of the US.

Thing is if Trump decides to take it by force then he is directly triggering article 5 of NATO, so for the UK,Germany, France and Canada to declare war on the US would be quite the scene.

Spot on. The UK couldn't even it wanted to. Aside from the nuclear deterrent, half of the systems the UK depends on are US based. There's also US nuclear weapons literally in the UK right now, at Lakenheath, they were whizzed back in without any debate in the summer. There's also multiple US air wings based here featuring a wide range of combat aircraft.

We are a vassal state, no more no less, our politicians actively celebrate it.

Even the much-vaunted carriers were designed to be 'interoperable' with US carrier battle groups (in the words of Alan West) and weren't fitted with cats and traps so they are dependent on US F-35s with STOVL which are the only things which can fly from them.

The funny thing is the Russians did, ultimately, leave large parts of Eastern Europe. The Americans never left Western Europe.

Starmer will go to Turnberry to grovel at Trump's feet again when he is next year and idiots in the press will call it 3D chess.
