Continued rewatching of both Ripper Street (Prime) and Elementary (U). Mentioned last week so I won’t go on. Both ace though.

This weeks Xmas themed romcoms were

This Is Christmas - Bored but kind-hearted commuter on London train tries to organise a Christmas party for the passengers on his regular route (Kaya Scodelario, Joanna Scanlan, Ben Miller, Tim Spall, etc) A bit of a daft premise but it’s a decent film. Not too heavy on the comedy but it has the odd laugh. One massive downer though - Spall plays a lonely old fella from Liverpool who it turns out was an ex-shite player in the 70’s and won all the trophies and medals, etc. it really pissed me off as I was enjoying the film before that. That aside well worth watching. 7.1/10

Love At First Sight - Two twenty somethings meet on a plane from America to London. She’s chaotic and anxious, travelling to London for the second wedding of her divorced Dad. He’s a likeable and clever student, studying in the US and travelling back to London for his Mum’s memorial. They bond on the flight before becoming separated on arrival. Lovely little film this, only an hour and a half long and made even better for being totally unexpected. We loved it. The two leads are great. I’ve seen Haley Lu Richardson in films before and she’s just lovely. The supporting cast including Rob Delaney and Sally Phillips are ace also. Again, not too heavy on the comedy and despite taking place on the 21st and 22nd of December the Xmas stuff is barely noticeable. Recommended for those with a bit of love in their soul and it may bring a little tear to your eye. 7.8/10

Nonna's - Italian NY man starts restaurant with Italian grandmothers. Trite, cliche ridden, Do it by umbers script. Could have been worse but not by much. Made me want to watch the much better Italian NY restaurant film, The Big Night 3/10
Jay Kelly. The worst thing I have seen in ages. Smug, lazy, & boring 1/10

Christmas Karma snide - A reworking of A Christmas Carol directed by the Bend it Like Beckham writer and director.
One of the oddest films I've ever watch. The Asian lad from Big Bang Theory stars as the Scrooge character, Danny Dyer turns up as a singing cabbie, Pixie Lott is Bob Cratchets wife and Shazny Lewis from All Saints pops up as a singing office worker.
The ghosts are played by Hugh Bonniville, voice only, as Marley, Eva Longoria as Christmas passed, dressed in Mexican day of the dead get up complete with a mariachi band, Billy Porter as a camp ghost of Christmas present and Boy George as a singing ghost of Christmas to come.

The story lurches from cheesy tunes to Idi Amen, complete with footage of him, kicking the Indians out of Uganda, right wing protesters shouting send them back, several deaths, NF beating up a young scrooge all accompanied by bhangra Christmas songs or the awful cheesy songs written by Gary Barlow.
End credits are accompanied by a video of Priyanka Chopra and Barlow singing a Sikh language version of last Christmas.
It was like a fever dream

Mayor of Kingstown, two series in, superb. Get involved.
Justin Hawkins on YouTube interviewing the fella out of Sleaford Mods, not my kind of music but enjoyed them talking about various issues, he probably comes across as a bit of a knob but his channel is really good, always promoting new artists and bands.

Mayor of Kingstown is fantastic. Been banging the drum for ages about it. Series 1 and 2 excellent, series 3 still good but series 4...kin hell.

Right up there with Breaking Bad and Ozark for me.

Rewatched American Psycho. First time I watched it since the cinema on original release. Hasn't aged well 5/10.

Fallout S2 E1. Slow 6/10

It: Welcome to Derry. I enjoyed the whole series. Fun, some laughs, and really gory for a TV show. 8/10

Green Bay v Chicago - Egg Throwing. One of the greatest comebacks I've ever seen. Amazing end to a game. Go Bears!!! 10/10

I don’t mind Rob Beckett tbh. He was good on Taskmaster. The task he did on the athletics track is one the all time greats on the show.

Love Actually (Netflix) - never watched this before, always swerved it assuming it would be lovey-dovey shite. But the missus stuck it on and I gave it a go - ended up enjoying it more than expected 6/10

Ready or Not (Disney / Snide) - 2019 horror / comedy film, all a bit silly 5/10

Mayor of Kingstown (Apple / Snide) - halfway through the latest series now, still decent enough 7/10

The Mastermind (Mubi) - the increasingly impressive Josh O'Connor organises a (fairly easy) heist of some paintings from a local gallery. Very languid, arthouse effort which won't be for all 7/10

I Love you to Death (Snide) - peak Kevin Kline in this 1990 filum with him ace as a philandering Italian pizza parlour chap and his missus Tracey Ullman trying to off him. River Phoenix and Keanu Reeves - as well and feebly as ever respectively - feature 7/10

Finished 'Say Nothing' brilliant but couldn't help feeling utter contempt for all the main protagonists by the end.

"Good Fortune" - light-hearted movie featuring Keanu Reeves as a bumbling angel swapping the lives of the rich Seth Rogen and down on his luck Aziz Ansari.

Some woeful acting (especially from Reeves) and a very twee storyline but I enjoyed it.

There is absolutely no fucking need for that film to slip in the Kopite reference, totally unnecessary and probably a nod to the writer/director being a gobshite from the Home Counties.

The ending is sadly different. The novella is darker but the rest of it is really faithful.

The ending of The Long Walk is also a bit sanitised as well but otherwise well worth watching if you haven’t already. A better film overall too I think

For Better Or Worse - All4. A Belgian Walter Presents offering in six parts, but I reckon it must be set very near the French border, as the dialogue was full on French, and there were a fair few actors I recognised from other Frenchy WP fare. The basic premise is a wife starts suspecting her husband of nefarious deeds, and she starts questioning his movements (not them ones), but he's a proper control freak, and he gaslights her and gets the kids (one shared parentage, one his from a previous marriage) to think she's going mad. There are massive holes in this (especially in I think the third episode), but it got it's shit back together enough so that I really enjoyed it, and it was twisty enough not to be too predictable, and with a few unexpected shocking moments. The woman who plays the wife was great, and rather alluring. 8/10.
