Picking up a dehumidifier later

Posted by Wally Bazoom User icon on December 4, 2025, 1:32 pm

Anyone have one? Can’t wait to give it a spin.

How long do you leave it on for per day? Give me tales of how it’s transformed your life. Does it make the air so dry you’re getting tickly throats or whatever? I need details.

Cheers to everyone who replied. I left it running this morning. Hopefully it’ll stop the condensation on the inside of the kitchen window of a morning. Might get one for upstairs too I reckon.

We've had a condensation issue/damp as we bought a old georgian house ex rental where the landlord did fuck all over 30 years

What we found helps in winter is open the windows for 1/2 to a hour on non rainy days for air circulation, weve also got new & extra radiators fitted increased room temp, also a dehumidifier in the room we dry clothes

Also this for windows and the bathroom

Cheers fella. I always open the windows for half an hour myself. No damp or mould as yet but do get the condensation in colder weather.

Might get that Karcher thing. 👍

I had one for work purposes (to dry plaster quicker).

Sorry i got shut. In the home they can eliminate condensation which leads to many coughs and colds at home. Also, if you dry any washing at home, having a dehumidifier on in the same room. It will eliminate any damp that is caused by tumble dryers or clothes maidens.

They only use a trickle of electricity, so should be left on all day or all night. Make sure water collector is emptied of course. They normally 'cut out" automatically, when full.

Good ones are not cheap btw.

I have a Meaco. Its boss.

If it has numbers on you want to be aiming for about 40%, just keep it on until you get near that, it should do it all for you anyway.

Recently got a small one which is mainly used to dry clothes off, does this well in the small spare room. Stick it in various other rooms when it's not doing it's laundry job and it amazes me just how much water it collects. Also tends to make the rooms feel warmer. Was reluctant to get one when the better half was looking for one but I'm sold on them now.

I have 2 from Electriq.

The newer one is ace for drying the laundry, with our heated airer. It has a laundry mode and oscillating fans, so it more evenly dries.

The old one is usually on by the bedroom window. It turns off automatically once it reached the target humidity level. The new one stays on when it reaches target humidity (bit annoying) but just as an air purifier.

Combine your dehumidifier with one of these airers.

I’ve two and use them a lot

My house is old and like a cave with no central heating so they’re excellent and essential

How long does it take to dry clothes mate? Is it preferable to the tumble dryer?

We haven't got a tumble dryer, hence do this, and I errrr don't do it *looks at floor* so not really sure

It might be on for the evening (but not overnight to be safe), and whilst probably doesn't finish the job it will break the back of it

I do both

Tumble dry clothes youre not arsed about and socks, towels baby clothes, youre looking at about 4-5 hours with a dehumidifier we use a desecant one which warms the air when doing it

Do you need to keep the clothes really close to the dehumidifier for them to dry? Also, do you ever get that horrible manky smell when clothes take too long to dry?

I had the issue with the damp smell on the clothes when they're dried indoors which is why we bought one. It's just a cheap small one but it has definitely helped on that front.

Yes this is how we do it, box room. No smells.
Keep door shut obviously

No dampness in room either, again probably obviously, but there is a printer, screen, laptops etc just as close.
Although hang on, might explain the printer FS

Got one in my 3d printer room to stop the filament from getting damp and knackered. It has a smart plug on it and a 25 quid Amazon air quality monitor that reads humidity. An alexa routine switches it on and off.

Never thought of it tbh.
