He’s a problem.

Stubborn team selection when things aren’t working.
Accepting referee bias against us.
Zero flexibility in games when issues arise.
Weakness in defending and attacking set pieces.
Approach to cup games.
Team looks tired / slow despite 1 week turnaround.

I’m not sure what the answer is because these are recurring themes.

There are three huge issues at the moment

We don’t have a central striker
Our full backs can’t get forward and honestly just aren’t good enough
The team is too slow

I think the third of these is the biggest issue. We should have been dead and buried when Keane came off against palace, all of a sudden, put a quick central defender in there and we can play much further up the field, we can’t if we don’t. All of a sudden, we can’t get players closer to our limited strikers, the midfield (which lacks pace) doesn’t have to make up as much ground and especially at home, it gets the crowd into the game. To be clear, the level of Keane’s play isn’t the problem, but having two slow centre backs on top of the other issues listed is asking for trouble

I honestly can't be doing with him. We've a decent side there but he's playing them in wrong positions and refuses to budge on stuff. He's always been the same. We will be mid table no problem but it seems like another Moyes wasted opportunity.

Do any of us actually know what his real position is, barely seen him play before he signed for us.

Just the one player out of position then, you said "them" so i assumed more. Apologies for being a bit pedantic but other than O'Brien who did very well out of position, out of necessity,I don't think he is playing anyone out of position at all.

I mean because of this it's affecting other positions. Just an opinion. Dewsbury Hall isn't a behind the lone striker player. Alcaraz is. He won't drop Gueye like he should to put Dewsbury Hall in there. So he's accommodating players rather than playing to their strengths. I remember Alex Ferguson saying that if players play in their proper positions then they don't worry about stuff as much as they can play their normal game. It's just a thought.

Yeah I get what you are saying / thinking. I genuinely have no idea what Deswsbury Halls best position, I had left midfield in my head when we signed him but think I may have confused him with Harvey Barnes, I'm quite sure he isn't a Gueye type player though.

QOur centre midfield worries me more than our full back and forwards issues, we are too wide open and unless Gueye is on form we struggle

Yep, and this is what Moyes struggles with. He likes sticking to what he does and it can be detrimental. Like playing certain players he thinks he can rely on rather then playing what should be better for the team.

The biggest mystery for me is Dibling, a few games now have been crying out for a different wide player on the pitch and yet he still doesn't come on.

the thing is that Ndiaye is playing there and is arguably our best player, hes not dropping Grealish (and nor should he) so if Dibling plays on the right who gives way?
Does he move Ndiaye central? does that mean dropping KDH further back? if he does that does Garner move to full back? (which is what I would do)

Im not disagreeing i just dont know how he gets him in the team.

Could be that they see it as a development season for Dibling with a view to him being a Grealish replacement for next season on the basis that we may not be in a position to retain Grealish for whatever reason. Surprised how little game time he's had so far though on that basis.

On a more serious note watching our approach play is slow and ponderous it bores the shit out of me.

Watching Brentford the other day, who've sold loads of good players, produce a full 90 minutes of running, closing down and breaking quickly made me wonder if we'll ever see 10 players who are fast and fit as fuck and can do it for a full 90 minutes.

Thinking mykolenko can come inside and burst into the box was Moyes trying to replicate pienaar it was ridiculous.

we've improved players massively from last season and are able to keep possession but still moves break down when the remaining shitheads have to pass to a blue shirt and fuck it up, Mykolenko, Beto etc

Looks as though he's fixated on the patient, Man City template of developing play which in some respects isn't as effective as it used to be, it will still keep City up there but we're not at their level are we even if we did give a good account of ourselves for 60 mins last week. Pace, aggression, counter attacking and targeting set pieces (and having an idea of what to do with them) looks the way that the teams at top are going.

He is 9.68% better than Dyche, Benitez and Allardyce but cut from the same cloth as all of them.

Beyond his history with the club. THAT is the only reason he is in the job.

We are daft if we expect anything better than a slightly better version of what we have been served up over the last few years.

If we can "steady the ship" this season, it needs to be his last

ONLY IF there is a genuine plan to be able to bring in the right people and back them in the right way.

Otherwise we may as well bumble about being boring and average.

he certainly was never lasting beyond his 2.5 year deal. from what he said when he signed on i dont think he wants to.

i would agree that because of his past making him damaged goods to some coupled with the shelf life of a PL manager means i doubt he will start next season.

If he doesn’t win a cup or get Europe he needs to be replaced with someone better. We need to be ruthless. Was actually laughing on the way out yesterday the way the club are trying create post match stuff and had music blaring out trying to encourage some activity. It’s just not going to happen when the games are so turgid. Most people seemed to not be able to get away quick enough.

The difficulty is that unless we have the players then even the best managers in the world are, from time to time serve up turgid football. In Carlo’s first season he had us playing well when James was in his pomp but when he got that injury Carlo’s team put in dire, shockingly bad football.
We have tried the best manager, the old, experienced survival merchants such as Big Fat Sam and Dyche, big names like Koeman and up and coming managers like Silva and a slightly more experienced Martinez. The point is getting “someone good” is usually going to involve a gamble on someone most people haven’t heard of. Iraola and Glasner were hardly household names and both had very poor periods in their current jobs which would have people on here seething. We all want someone good. Identifying them and sticking with them through the inevitable tough times is what the club and us as supporters have to do. Sadly, I haven’t got a clue who would fit the role.

We’ve been shite for years. Expecting a cup or Europe in his first season is pretty unrealistic IMHO. Christ knows who’s job it was to realise we needed a striker and two full backs last May, presumably his, and that’s where the problem lies.

part of the problem over the last 5 years has been changing manager after manager. I dunno why everyone expects that after years of neglect and 1 season of spending a bit of cash we should be suddenly back in the hunt for trophies/Europe?

Its all well and good saying we spent £100mill but
a) that's not actually as much as it used to be
b) We haven't spent anything in years so we have that underinvestment to make up for.

Yesterday was crap, its clear there are still areas of the squad that need improving, it will take another window or 2 for that to happen I think.

Moyes has his limitations and they haven't really changed from the last time he was here but he should provide some stability while this new lot get the back office in order and make decisions about the long term direction of the club/squad and how we kick on, expecting Europe or Trophies off him straight away is asking a bit much in my opinion.

Agree overall and actually didn't mind a lot of yesterday. Just still his idiocy in tossing the cup game away means I have no benefit of the doubt for him.

That spending and his supposed desire to get us back was waaaay enough to beat a shite Wolves team and not fanny about. That would have had us at least one step more "back in the hunt" for a trophy and Europe and he totally fucked it.

I’d personally go more 4–3-3 than 4-2-3-1.

Not ideal but put Garner right back and Alcaraz a false nine. I hate that term and the position being a thing normally as well.

I'm up for everything here except switching Garner to RB. He's playing really well at the moment in his actual proper position and we seem to make this mistake all the time of diminishing decent players by using them to plug holes elsewhere in the team.

Keep Jimmy G (the Kopite bellend) in his proper position with Gueye and KDH making up that middle three.....the rest is a decent shout.

Has to be worth a go at least. It's not even alien to Moyes as he did this with some success with Cahill and Fellain. Alcaraz can count himself unlucky to have seen so few minutes, but this could be a way of finding a niche spot for him if our CFs don't start delivering goals. Either that or move KDH deeper and bring Alcaraz into the middle between Grealish and NDiaye.
