What's the root of his problem with Pickford? Has nothing to do all game and makes a good save down low - "Pickford does enough". Faint praise.

I think Dixon has a problem with Everton because of the Kevin McLeod thing.

I was there, saw it happen, he brought it on himself.

He has spoken about it since, McLeod gave an interview about it not long ago to the Echo I think.

For those who don't remember, in a game 20+ years ago, Dixon was kicking the shit out of Idan Tal all game and the ref didn't do anything about it despite Everton players and the crowd complaining all game.

Knox told McLeod (coming on as a sub) to do Dixon. McLeod told Dixon as we was running on what he was going to do to him, and then went through him with a horror challenge soon after.

Dixon had to go off, and while it's a myth it ended his career, he was north of 30 and he was never the same after and played sporadically until he retired.

He has genuinely hated Everton ever since and that is now something Pickford gets.

Interesting stuff, and probably not surprising, but he's a genuinely miserable, pessimistic, depressive twat of a commentator anyway. His take on virtually anything that ever happens in any game is negative. It's staggering he's somehow made a career out of this.

No one can doubt the calibre of opposition he's been up against, but when an England keeper beats a record made by Gordon Banks you'd expect at least a mention on BBC breakfast sports this morning. I just think he deserves better.

Great Keeper was Seaman but he made more mistakes for England than Pickford ever has in less appearances.

Would be nice for people to just accept he's a great keeper without having to compare with others.

In about 6 / 7 years time I reckon people in the media will look back on Pickford differently when they are seeing a inferior goal keeper replace him and make mistakes for England in big games like they had with Seaman, Hart, Green, Robinson James.

I can’t remember what tournament it was, possibly the Euros when England lost the final on penalties to Italy, he kept going on about Pickford being the weak link in the team. Chris Sutton joined in, in whatever paper he was writing for.
It was strange.
Pickford conceded one goal in open play (I think) and s@ved two penalties in the shootout.

It's weird. I could understand that if he was being picked for the first time now or if there was loads of standout competition. Fact is he's never let anyone down for England and has loads of credit in the bank.
