There’s nothing in front or around him though?

Not too sure what else he is meant to do so we at least keep the ball.

It's not him slowing it up. It's the approach play being so ponderous, no support from fullbacks and so little movement in front of him is that the only safe thing he's got to do is knock it short/backwards.

It’s odd how so far he’s hanging back rather than bombing on with or without the ball.
