Nobody’s hero by M.M. Craven.

Second in a series about a feller called Ben Kroenig.
Bit of a Jack Reacher character, living off grid because the Russian mafia have a price on him.
Works for the US government sometimes.
Sort of story Robert Ludlum might come up with.
Decent. 7/10 from this book critic.

Just started
Defenders of the West (not footy related)
by Raymond Ibrahim.
Christian Soldiers fighting in the Holy Land against the Islamic Soldiers and later in Spain which the Muslims Army had taken hold.
Quite incredible to think that most of the Middle East was Christian land, as was all of North Africa and Turkey at one time.
Lebanon until the 1970's

Just finished One Years of Solitude, Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Hard work at times, but in the end very good.

Russia: Revolution and Civil War 1917—1921 by Anthony Beevor. Amazing how little people know about this, certainly in the West. Possibly because of the carnage of the 1914-18 war, the last thing people wanted was to hear about more war going on. To think that as the Versailles Peace Treaty was being signed and the Great War was being spoken of as "the war to end all wars", the main protagonists had troops deployed in a conflict which is estimated to have killed up to 12 million. If you've read Beevor's excellent, but harrowing books on Stalingrad or Berlin 1945, which highlight the brutality and inhumanity inherent in war, this one is even more extreme. Both the Reds and the Whites were responsible for some utterly horrific methods of torturing and murdering people.

Anthony Beevor's books (Stalingrad, Berlin) are superb. Apparently, even German and Russian reviewers praised them.

Read all his books.Paris and Berlin books are truly harrowing about what went on also his d day book was completely honest in it’s portrayal of the French army and the fact the west weren’t exactly ethical in a lot of cases.Absolutely fantastic writer

The Devil in The White City by Erik Larson.

True story About Chicago at the end of the 19th century and the hosting of the world trade fair. And the serial killer who was at large in the city at the time.

Excellent so far.

Almost finished The Drawing of the Three- 2nd of Stephen King's Dark Tower series, enjoying these so far but debating whether to carry on straight away with the next one or have a break and read something different first.

Was it you I promised my later volumes? I am half way through the final one. If I have a criticism it seems there is no one telling him to prune things that slow the story down. He seems to follow very meandering trail of his imagination, so you have single scenes lasting half a book!!

The Stephen King wankathon continues.

About half way through IT, which I've been saving for a while.

Enjoying it but just no need for the text to be so small, especially the italics. Just print bigger books!

The end of the world as we know it

An anthology based of Stephen King’s the stand. 30 authors have written short stories linked to the overall world of the stand but have nothing to do with the main characters of Kings book.

It’s absolutely fantastic. 10 stories in and loving it.

Did you like The Stand? There is a section in that book which focuses on people who died due to secondary reasons and not Tripps. This is kind of like that.

Some stories focus on people that you know will travel to Flagg as well. It’s so so good. There is one set on a space station that I’ve not got too yet which I can’t wait for!

Never read any of Kings books.
Read a couple by Dean Koontz years ago. I’m led to believe they’re quite similar.

You have been misinformed. Dean Koontz is not fit to lace King’s boots. They are in the same genre but the quality of writing is miles apart.

Thanks mate. As I say, never read any of Kings books.
I think I’m right in saying that some of Stephen Kings books have been made into films, none of Koontz have.
Maybe an indicator?
