A decent piece in today’s Observer News review.

It’s informative and complimentary though the payoff suggests it’s a pity we didn’t get the already filled in Clarence dock (though it was never offered by Peel, which has ‘more lucrative plans for it’), as it’s nearer to town.

The Victorian society tried to stop it,they didn't want the derelict dock filled in. If they had been around in the Edwardian era the three graces would never have been built as they stand on the filled in George dock.

What is World Heritage status anyway ? And is it worth having ?
As far as I am aware tourists weren’t flocking to that area prior to building the ground

Even if BMD was the problem, what would UNESCO want ? Just leave it all derelict because it is authentic.

Why would Clarence dock instead of Bramley Moore made unesco happy?
If someone now built a replica of the liver building on Nelson dock, unesco would probably complain that it’s not on keeping with the new stadium.

Yes I read the link but couldn’t figure out why they objected to Bramley Moore but would have been happy if the stadium was on Clarence dock, which is nearer to the liver building etc.

Agree, doesn't make sense as it is closer to town so would have more impact, unless filling in the docks is what matters.

Seems irrelevant anyway as I don't think clarence dock was ever an option.

Peel wanted Everton to kick start the regeneration of the area from the northern end ( After doing sweet fa themselves for 20 years ) Clarence Dock wasn't offered because they want to cash in on that site once the area is on the rise

Didn’t lose the status because of the stadium ; the city were on the watch list long before moshiri turned up ; the stadium was designed to help in the mitigation statement ;

If the stadium had been vying for Clarence the mitigation would have been lessened ;

BMD is perfect as it keeps it football without on site but outside ground Nando’s ;

Clarence Dock would have been perfect, right on the edge if the city centre and it was already filled in so we wouldn't have faced any if the issues raised in that article and the build time would have been a lot shorter.

Always strikes me as weird that people have anything negative to say about it, like the bricks aren’t matching or it doesn’t feel monolithic enough or that UNESCO pulled its status.

Nobody says a word when Anfield looks a complete mess and the surrounding streets have been run into ground, especially after the city no longer getting Objective 1 status money.

If only everything in life was as reliable as Dave Watson

I know Professor Parkinson. He thinks the redevelopment of Bramley Moore is far, far more important that UNESCO status.

He’s also not from the area, loves Liverpool, and is an all round lovely fella.

Thanks for linking that. It makes sense to me that the stadium is going to be fantastic for development and conservation of the north docks area. Seems weird that this article is trying to fight battles that have already been won.
