My mate has took him for his scan this morning.

I, in my warped mind, I thought it may be a sinister faux injury, as JB sorts personal terms on a move to Madrid, Inter or similar.

I think, for FFP, one big one out, would steady the ship financially, allowing us to sign a RB, Dibling, and another CB as cover for Tarkowski and O'Brien.

I hope I'm wrong. Love Branthwaite, but he is our biggest sellable asset.

We have had some big drags on the wages gone (holgate great case in point) plus we can immediately start psr banking against the stadium uplift and the refinancing has reduced our costs.

How can you tell if someone is a Kopite? If the hat, scarf, T shirt or tattoo isn't enough of a clue, they will have told you within two sentences. Basically, it's a cult.

Maybe Branthwaite felt Moyes wasn't training them hard enough, thought "what would Dyche do?" and did a Gaffer's Day regime which injured him.

Big blow, but this is something that would normally happen to us a week after the window closes, I know we have porential transfers currently open with Dibling, Luiz & Kubo, but surely now we should be looking at a new centre back now too, preferably one who can play right back

We all know what will happen if Keane plays the next 2 months, mistakes galore, tons of goals conceded & him popping up at the other end with a goal or two

There's a two week break for internationals in the middle of September, he's not going to miss that much, 5 PL games at worst including at the tip on 20th Sept.
We'd be better as said below getting an actual RB for the long term knowing that O'Brien can play in both positions.

Why aren't we just using this as the rationale to make sure we buy an actual RB?
We have 3 CHs now for 2 places, and 4 will be enough in 6 weeks

Not every member of the squad is there for their potential to be in the first team. Depending on what wage we are paying him, I'd imagine a big part of the decision to keep him on for one more year is the impact he will have on others in the dressing room as club captain and still a good spokesman for the team (Pickford's just been sent off again for decapitating Van Dead in the derby, and the press are outside baying for a quite?....send Seamus out there to give an Everton point of view).

You've also got to factor in, if people at the club see him as a potentially good coach and manager going forward, then it might be a good idea to blood him in that respect whilst he's still a part of the club, rather than letting him go elsewhere and be potentially distracted away.

The decision won't have been purely for 'sentimental' reasons and depending on the cost overall it will be good business.

As I said keep him as a coach then. Otherwise he’s robbing a better player of his place. It’s just an Everton thing it’s what we do nice club etc. it’s not what ruthless winning clubs do tho

Why can't he be both? He'll be getting the wages commensurate with being a coach anyway. He's a member of the playing squad till we fill all the slots in the 25 man squad and then he drops out.

Right now we have 23, but the young keeper and Armstrong are homegrown so it drops to 21. I can't see us signing more than four players between now and the end of the window, but if we do then Coleman drops down. I honestly don't get the idea that he is somehow blocking us from having another player in there?

Dunno but technically have two right backs plus a centre back who can play there so it’s not going to be a recruitment priority.

The manager doesn’t fancy one of the right backs and the other one is hugely unreliable. It’s not very good planning.

They can’t sell Patterson to Hoffenheim because Coleman has an injury and now Branthwaite is injured so he might need O Brien to play in the centre for a bit, so they might need Patterson.

Or something.

Feels like they could have dealt with this earlier on but likely they will leave it to a loan or something.

It wouldn’t really be Everton if we weren’t heading into the first game of the season without a key player picking up an injury and us needing a right back, so I’m just learning to enjoy it all now.
