Crystal Palace have been unsuccessful in their appeal against being demoted from the Europa League and will play in the Conference League this season. The ruling from the Court of Arbitration for Sport means Nottingham Forest's spot in the Europa League is confirmed, having been promoted in Palace's place.

I usually support English teams in Europe - but nothing would please me more to see Forest get stuffed every game and have that Thursday-Sunday routine ruin their season. Absolute shysters - they didn't qualify for the tournament. They shouldn't be there.

Shame on UEFA as well (why does Palace's league position have any bearing on them vs Lyon when they didn't qualify through the league?)

The blame for Palace's situation lies with Textor, nobody else.
Forest have been classless throughout, they didn't need to get involved, they could have just sat back and waited for the Europa place to drop into their laps, then expressed sympathy for Palace.

They have and as a fan I'd actually rather be in the ECL if I was them. However, as with many things these days, it comes back money - Parish et al are bothered because the prize money in is much higher...

The winner of the EL can earn up to 32.5m Euro whereas the ECL is 18.4m Euro

Even if they cannot go all the way you get an extra £200k per win in the EL and you get money for being group winner/runner up (which you'd fancy them to get through the group at least).

I saw something online that QF of the EL exceeds the winner of the ECL (even if the winner of the ECL won every game and earned maximum rewards)

People seem to be saying that Palace should be happy because they have more chance of winning the ‘lesser’ trophy, but that’s true of every team in the Europa league, but none of them want to play in the conference league instead.
