When was the first stadium move mooted?

The Johnsondome was obviously the first serious attempt but I can vaguely recall some scheme back in the late 80s to get a joint stadium with the RS built on the former Kirkby golf course. Any older heads remember anything before that?

Anyway, 30 odd years we've had this monkey on our backs and its finally over.

Don't remember anything from Johnson. My first recollection was kings dock.

Although people started chatting about a ground share after Italia 90.

Obviously straight off the back of Hillsborough and the upcoming Taylor report.

How can you tell if someone is a Kopite? If the hat, scarf, T shirt or tattoo isn't enough of a clue, they will have told you within two sentences. Basically, it's a cult.

Yeah I think Italia 90 was a big spark for groundshare talk. Loads of boss stadiums (for the time) many of them shared, made it seem like a great idea.

I was all in favour at the time, but in retrospect imagine being the 1860 to their Bayern now....no thanks.

there was a big "consultation" thing around the time johnson took over. No doubt there were plans already on the table bts but I still remember the artist impressions they published.

Pretty sure I heard somewhere that there was groundshare talk as far back as the 60s with an idea for something around aintree way.

I might be remembering it wrong.

I can recall an interview with Philip Carter, around the time of Kendall getting the managers job, 80/81 ish.

He spoke of the main stand being the new Gwladys Street, and the desire to turn the whole stadium around to suit., bringing the Stadium capacity up to 60,000. In effect, knocking Gwladys Street school down, and several houses in Muriel and Diana Street, and commandeering that minty car park on Walton Lane.

He spoke of how we had people doing costing's to
see if this was feasable. If it was to prove too expensive, then the club would look at nearby available land, to begin a whole new stadium.

He spoke of Goodison being "tired", and Everton never being a club to stand still.

My mum and uncle grew up in Muriel St and went to Gwladys St School in the 40s, so glad that never happened to their heritage.

That would have took some funding.

Especially as watching howards way again they were saying the peter reid money was the last roll of the dice.

I remember reading an interview with Jim Greenwood after he retired. He said the club considered selling belfield in the early 80s to raise money.
Sounds like we where really strapped for cash in them days.
