This will be his last test match I reckon what a way to go out if they can get over the line

Even without the injury, he’s 36 and doesn’t tend to play overseas

If he'd done it when England were well into the tail, I could understand it, but there was still plenty of batting left. It was his aggression an assertiveness that totally swung the match back in England's favour. We were really struggling at that point. I'm more narked by Bethell, who seemed to have no ability to score a run other than charging down the pitch.

Hopefully this really hurts England, and they don't come out with that 'we play for fun and the result doesn't matter' shìte. It could be a good lesson for some of them.

I notice nobody is blaming the fielders for dropping 6 catches, or for the first innings batting, when some semi sensible batting would've had England 100 ahead intead of only 20.

One thing is for sure, the next series England play will be a lot tougher against the Aussie bowling attack on local pitches.

Time for ‘Baz’ and co to reflect and earn their money.

Nobody expects an England win down under but I’d hope we can at least be competitive.

It's the mental fragility that worries me, as the Ashes down under is the ultimate test of ability and mental toughness. I remember the 5-0 whitewash when Aussies were dominating, and Ashley Giles was talking about the team bus being silent on the way to the first test, as they were already beaten before the start. Harmison's nerve filled huge wide on the first ball summed it up.

That won't happen under Stokes, as he is mentally bullet proof, and Root is Root, though even he lost it in the first innings. Brooks doesn't seem bothered, but his brain clearly glitches, but the rest of them don't inspire in terms of mental toughness. Smith was a huge disappointment in this test.

There's a ton of talent there, and if Crawley steps up again, and we get the bowlers flying in, it could be anything. Just don't gift it to them is my big hope. Make them work for it.

His shot choice was in substance gross professional misconduct.

People talk about him as a potential future captain.

Not with his current mindset.

I can't see anyone else in this team who is captain material. Vaughan is shouting for Brook, as he only sees Pope as a vice captain. Giving Brook the captaincy is like leaving one of the kids in charge.
