Picking a rookie Test player for such a vital match was a ridiculous call

Some people were actually calling for him to be picked ahead of Ollie Pope at the start of the series.

Picking him, instead of Pope, at the start of the series might have worked, picking him for one test, he was on a hiding to nothing.

They left themselves a bowler short, which came back to haunt them when Woakes was injured.

They needed a bowler than can bat a bit not a batter than bowl a bit.

Liam Dawson possibly a better pick, offered control if not wickets at OT and can bat.

He’s only played 20 first class games and very little cricket this summer. He’s talented but needs to learn his trade in longer format matches.
