Stayed in a few mountain huts and bothies,home and abroad. Ours is a few miles out of Keswick. Even KMRT didn't know it was there (when I asked them for a donation box for the place).
Lingy Hut is a favourite and Greg's Hut on Cross Fell probably saved our lives one night doing winter ML night nav prep. Minus 15 on the summit. Mate had a tiny spot of frostbite on his finger when he took a glove off to look at the map.
Couldn't think of anything worse than walking into a heaving bothy, so go for ones that aren't that close to roads. Saw some footage of a full on rave going on in one with a lad on the decks and strobe lights.
