Loose toilet seat

In the downstairs toilet. The seat in nearly new. A minor problem but maybe the real men of WSAG can help. No matter how hard I tighten the fittings it starts wobbling again soon after. Is there anything that can be done or do I need a new seat?

I've got a 'special' bog seat/ tap fitting spanner that works a treat. U can borrow it, if u like. 😊

If it’s a plastic nut fastened from underneath , take it off , add a metal and rubber washer, and refasten

If it’s any type of toilet including back to the wall, get a pan seat fixing replacement kit from screwfix

Are the rubber "feet", under the seat, sitting flush on the rim of the bog?

Sometimes, you have to adjust the pegs in a position to bring the seat forward, or back, depending on the bog.

Not having the plastic/rubber feet sitting flush on the rim, can give it a wobbly feel. If this isnt the issue, the seat probably isn't suitable for your loo. This does happen occasionally.

One of the most dangerous domestic situations, this.

The chances of the whole thing slipping sideways and trapping one of your clockweights betwixt plastic rim and porcelain bowl is a recurring nightmare.

Or it will be, now that I've mentioned the possibility.

I recently fixed this in our bathroom, but I replaced the rubbish plastic butterfly nut with a normal metal one and added a rubber washer between that and the porcelain for a better grip.
Prior to that, every time you sat on it the movement was so violent it looked like you were doing the twist.

Good idea to replace nylon nuts and bolts with metal ones, and they can be properly tightened.

I bought stainless steel ones from Yorke and young on Smithdown Rd, to avoid the rust issue.

Probably a bit 'belt and braces', I know.

The worst thing in our bathroom is having to lie down with your face pressed up against the pot trying to reach under and put the nuts on with one hand without dropping them! And as it’s the one my son uses, there is every chance my face is squashed against pubes and piss dribbles!

Your "open bomb doors" quip has just given me the perfect opportunity to share something on here,that, frankly I should have shared ages ago.
When taking a dump, I like to play a game,of my own invention called "Bomb Sight"
Prior to dumpage you position bog roll either vertically or horizontally (or both for experts,but we'll get to that) in in two rows,with a gap in between,this is your "bomb sight"
The aim is to get, launched projectile precision bombed in the gap between.
Now of course,once mastered,then the bomb sight becomes two rows of both vertical and horizontal boundaries,this giving you a square, precision target!!! Not easily mastered.
There are of course variables, mostly ale and diet related.
So after a load of ale and a kebab,then precision bombing goes out of the window and we have to resort to carpet bombing! Less skill,but equally effective!

Yeah mate.

The screw part is metal but the ‘nut’ is plastic. I’m wondering if that’s the problem. I may buy metal nuts and see if that resolves it.

The plastic ones can be a bit loosey goosey, and it may be you need more than one rubber washer, or a better fitting one.

Most of them have more than one screw hole position per side, so you can slightly adjust the position of the seat from front to back.

Use a different screw hole, as it may not be sitting as flush (wahey) on the toilet as it needs to be.
