Re-reading Joe Abercrombie's First Law books. Finsihed the first trilogy, now onto the 2nd of 3 standalone books, before reading the other trilogy set in that world.

You Like It Darker - Stephen King. Collection of short stories. Dipping my toes into King, only ever read Carrie before. Very unputdownable so far.

Recently finished - East Of Eden by Steinbeck. A classic obviously, but I enjoyed The Grapes Of Wrath more.

The Kellerby code by Johnny Sweet, only heard about it as he was on the Adam Buxton podcast. Strong similarities with that salt burn film but a bit more depth. Alright so far.

Just finished the wings of eagles by ken follet which is about the American business men rescued from Iran during the start of the revolution in 79. Was good.

i read that a while ago. i liked the way they transposed the civil war/refugee experience to dublin in order to make it more real to us decadent westerners.

Do you know about this? It's actually a decent watch. Not sure where it's on - seen an ep on the Snidestick but not all eps on so just in passing

Not long finished Tokyo Express by Seicho Matsumoto. Quite enjoyable despite being a bit predictable. A bit dull at times too so wouldn't highly recommend.

Currently reading:

Petals of Blood, by Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o - a murder investigation set against the backdrop of imperialism and exploitation in Kenya. Really interesting and enjoyable so far, the main protagonists are layered, complex and well developed.

The Passenger by Cormack McCarthy - one of my favourite writers. This is an eerie story about a downed plane in the water off the US Coast in the Gulf of Mexico, so mainly set in the deep south. Very different to his other stuff, it feels quite Murakami-ish in its surrealness and meandering storylines. Enjoying it but not what I expected.

South India, love, loss, colonialism, caste system, medicine over three generations 1900s to 1970s.

The audiobook is brilliant but read by author who's Scots accent is extraordinarily terrible. The moment when we meet a 'Geordie' nurse and it gets even weirder made me reach for the printed book.

Divided Soul, The life of Marvin Gaye.

Stunning read of a true great who was also hugely troubled. His upbringing, especially by his father, is heartbreaking.

Im only about a third of the way through Walt. A quick peruse tells me that Belgium is a big chunk of the book. His father was, quite frankly, horrific. Im not upto his murder yet though I seem to recall his father said he had a mental blackout when he shot him.
It's a fascinating read tbh. He had a huge load of issues. It really touches on how much of a musical genius he was as well, obviously.
Thoroughly recommend it.
