They tried to get us into it in st malachys but none of us where having it when there was a footy pitch marked out on the yard that didn’t suddenly disappear in summer

same with tennis they would wheel the big telly out if it was raining and put Wimbledon coverage on …most of us didn’t have a clue what we were looking at

I did get a bat with the green shield stamps but me sister got bats and shuttlecock which won out

By the time we got to grammar school it was too late and only the lads from leafy suburbs knew how to hit a ball or bowl it

Me dad took me to Aigburth a few times to watch Lancashire but he was as unmoved by it as I was

I’m watching murder most puzzling now with the one from downtown to spend some time with the missus whose social life means I’ve hardly seen her and I have to say it’s far more intriguing than why play is slow …ha it takes five days that’s why it’s slow

That final half an hour was fantastic, genuine windmilling when stokes knocked that nobhead over then. Just a brilliant series.
