We could pay 2 wages for what he'd want (unless City massively subsidise), and his position is pretty much covered so it's a slightly disappointed no from me. In other circumstances maybe.

Obviously the above is based on a loan, but aren't City looking ideally to sell anyway ? They'll be lucky.

Other circumstances we wouldn’t stand a chance but it would be a bold move to hand over 40 big ones for a permanent deal unless there’s more to spend which is unlikely. I think he’d be brilliant and be a fans favourite instantly but that’s based on the player of two years back. If he’s still got that hunger and I’d trust Moyes to work that out, then we should at least try for a loan move with 50/50 wages or something

Only a wage subsidised loan deal is realistic I'd expect. Spunking £40m on a 29yr old is not what the club is about anymore I don't think.

I know but taking my sensible head off, he’s a game changer and a proper footballer. We’ve not had many over the last ten years so excuse my optimism. I’m convinced we’d get value even if we paid 40. Players don’t die at 30 years old these days, we could potentially get five seasons from him but that’s my armchair evaluation, I’m sure our new team of analysts will probably think different

I think the club should stop taking gambles on players with poor discipline and/or questionable lifestyles.
If he cant be professional and disciplined/give his all at City with the money he's on there, why would he be motivated to do it Everton?
The money theyre on makes me sick, and its an absolute disrespect to the clubs, themselves and the fans.

Totally agree with this. You only have to look at teams like Bournemouth, Fulham and probably Brighton to see that hiring players who are disciplined, fit, live the life of a professional athletes seriously and are able to be coached/improved as players are all that’s needed to challenge for Europe (I know that makes it sounds simpler than it really is).

I am sick of taking gambles, flyers, risks, whatever you want to call it. Loads of fans laughed and ridiculed the choice of buying Tarkowski, in spite of the fact he had a fantastic injury record, rarely looked bad in any Burnley side and wasn’t costing a lot of money. A squad with a foundation of players like that will does us much better than taking punt on expensive players like Grealish.

Once upon we would’ve said, if he’s not good enough for the champions/team in second etc then he’s not good enough for Everton. Now it seems to be, if he’s not good enough for a team above us, somehow Everton will have a magic touch on him - when history tells us otherwise almost never plays out like that.

If only everything in life was as reliable as Dave Watson

He’d be a really good player for loads of premier league teams but the circumstances now mean that’s not happening , and probably plays a leading role in his lifestyle ;

No one’s going to spend wedge on players close to 30 on big bucks who are on the decline the best they can hope for us a loan and some of the wage paid for

Look at Utd they’re fucked due to players on massive wedge who are meh no one’s going to offer those wages so they’re willing to just not play look at all the shite we bought that left for nothing

Him having a few beers at a gig in the close season isn't the issue. It's his insane wages and complete lack of form and passion for the game. Once players have gone down this road for so long, they don't often recover.

I do agree with your point, but im not sure it applies to Grealish (the wages bit obviously does like)

He just wasnt playing. But when he was he was playing well.

Since Mid Jan (my app stopped at 19th Jan so started there)
Played more than 45 mins - 5 times
Goals/assist - 2 Goals 1 Assist, 2 MOM awards

Also got 2 in 3 for England.

Once you fall out of favour with Pep, you are basically fucked. But he played very well when given the chance. Its not a Dele Alli situation at all for me.

Completely agree, it’s a bit like Delle Ali. Whatever the root cause of the rut, once it goes on for a certain amount of time it’s generally terminal decline.

The other factor for me with Grealish is that I’m not convinced there is that much magic to re-capture anyway. Clearly at Villa and his first season at City we aren’t talking about a bad footballer. But I have never seen the fuss. Takes 5 touches when 2 would do. Think Guardiola thought he could coach that out of him a bit but even the best make mistakes. £100m for him was insane, but I suppose City could afford to waste it.

I thought he was a very good player at Villa, but completely unsuited to anything they play under Pep. Do footballers never think about this? It's amazing he's still there all these years later mind.
