Well, I probably would have expected the AI summary to say something along the lines of "A healthy discussion about the removal of society's right to protest without fear of imprisonment was hijacked by a bunch of multi-username irritating fookers - probably deliberately by what are appearing more likely to be agent provocateurs whose sole intent appears to be to dilute the justified fume at the way the world is heading".

Well I for one am becoming more and more convinced that this type of constant new username invasion whiffs of orchestration.

Infiltrate a space that was previously pretty harmless, but definitely left-leaning (which is why I liked it) and where even if people have differing views, they usually had a reasonable debate without getting personal. Then pepper it with constant vitriol, which makes it so toxic everybody ends up sounding polarised.

Racism is a horrible thing and it’s something I and others have been accused of lots on here. Simply because I don’t agree with the view of certain posters (I have never been banned for racism)

Even criticism of Dcl was put down to racism a while back.

I banged on about it once, in a thread titled FAO Madjens, which you ignored whilst you hid for weeks before finally starting to post on here again. Why didn't you just say your claims were nonsense instead of going into hiding. It was rum to say what you said to try and get people to jump on another poster because you'ld had a disagreement with him. I think it's fair to say that given the only person being accused of racism on there was Banjo that Jens jumping on the racism bandwagon is also accusing Banjo of it too. The only thing I can really say is I believe the difference is public figure v non public figure.

All that was really known about those two lads at the time was their race and one had been booted in the head by a police officer.

Regardless of the provocation, that appeared unjustified in the video because the guy was already subdued.

The Partey case feels different, people are more likely to have preconceived ideas about him because the rumour mill has been flying for so long.

Given the ultra low conviction rates for rape, particularly when there is the sort of financial imbalance likely between accused and accuser then it's a more reasonable stance to think he's probably guilty. We all have opinions right? Conversely though, it wouldn't mean police booting him in the head whilst detained would be justified. Or that due process shouldn't be followed.

The police officers aren't known as individuals though. All we had to go on at the time was the video of them booting someone in the head who was already detained. That is unacceptable in any circumstances.

Any presumption of guilt on the other party had to be based on something.

Fair enough if you don't want to rehash it, but you brought it up. I'm just explaining to me why those two cases feel very different.

Again it's just my opinion, so can count for diddly squat in your world, but I believe anyone who could look at that video and decide the detained guy was to blame for being kicked in the head by a police officer could only be making an assumption based on a racial profile.

It's at the secretary of state's discretion. They don't need to prove anything. The law explicitly says they can decide. I would imagine it can be challenged but that's expensive and slow.

Might as well be. These kind of clauses are not that unusual - "if there's an argument the secretary of state decides" is a pretty common get-out in loads of laws - but not normally deployed in such incredible bad faith in contexts where people might be imprisoned for supporting "terrorists" that don't cause any terror. As usual, legislation and checks and balances are all designed on the presumption that government is acting in the interests of the public rather than themselves. When people nakedly and deliberately take the piss, everything falls to bits (see Trump).

Definitely echoes of Marinus van der Lubbe. Wouldn't be surprised if the next step is to set up a few "false flag" incidents and use them to justify more proscriptions.
