i have sour memories of my interactions with NUFC fans back in the 90s when they became sky's pet project.

if felt like a combination of:

    media tummy tickling

one team town (no checks and balances from rival fans)

tbf a clear improvement in the team

which led to a perception by their fanbase that they were entitled to swagger about like prime Real Madrid.

obviously this went away in the Mike Ashley yo-yo years - it probably also stripped a lot of the fair weather gobshites away, and i did have plenty of sympathy for the fans that were grinding through a difficult period.

aside from who it was, i was ok with them having money to spend again - tbf they have done everything right so far in appointing Howe and buying well.

unfortunately though its dragged the gobshites back - they have probably stopped going shopping with the mrs on match days and are now at home with a replica shirt on in front of the telly again, vicariously basking in the media fluff.

you sort of have to take it from other teams, because they can roll out a recent honours list (no matter that it was bought with money others arent allowed to spend), but this lot always seem to start acting like billy big bollox without anything to back it up.

the scouse mackems thing has always had my jaw on the deck - the insinuation is that makes them the Northeast Liverpool. in what way exactly?
