He was actually really decisive with that one in his first managerial gig at ours.
In the dozen or so games at the end of the season he took over, he realised the (extremely popular) incumbent was no longer up to it and had him replaced in the summer. Never went back on that decision either.
So much so that he mostly didn't even have a sub keeper on the bench - in the days when you could choose just to have outfield players. His back-up option was Alan Tate (used once and kept a clean sheet!)
