Remember that between them your in-laws have nil rate bands totalling £650k plus up to £350k of residence nilrate bands before IHT is payable. Only then would you need to consider the normal expenditure out of income exemption. If in point fill in page 8 of IHT403 to see if there is surplus income each year which can be gifted. This form will need to be submitted if claiming the exemption.
