I have some family who live in the constituency and its actually alright, especially Orrell and Winstanley. Hindley and Golborne are nice enough places as well as is Ashton. There's only really Platt Bridge that is rough. Given the demographics and home ownership% etc the constituency probably wouldn't have been as solid Labour as it was for so long but when everyone has a grandad who was a miner being anti Tory is just built in.

The worst estates in Wigan (Norley Hall, Marsh Green) and the likes of Scholes, Ince and Newtown are all in Lisa Nandy's constituency (Wigan) not Makerfield.
