What are the origins of this type of mindset - the Hegeseth stuff, what you see from Stephen Miller and others?

What do they feel shut out from?
When did it start for them and their politics?

Did this all pre-date Reagan?

It certainly existed well before the “culture wars”. Seen some discussion of it being a hangover, still, from thr Civil War and the advancement of civil rights.

This sense of being some kind of insurgent, an outsider, in a system of capitalism and political representation that has basically looked after them all very well is just wild to me.
