You’re being way too short sighted about it all. We had a chance to build something in the 90s when there was no PSR and gate revenue was a massive part of a football club’s revenue. We could taken out loans, done fancy asset backed securities on ticket prices and be way more attractive to buyers like Man City’s owners. We could have then invested massively without repercussions and cemented our place as a protected team instead of now constantly be on the outside looking in.

It was shortly after winning the FA Cup we could have bully that stadium and the constant “one decent striker away from being a top team” for most of Moyes’s first period could easily have been afforded and we would have looked a lot more attractive.

It would also have meant we avoided all the issues we’ve had over the last 4-5 years and saved a lot of time and effort off the pitch trying to build a stadium for close to 30 years.

We have got in our own way over the past 5-10 years as the effects of that has multiples thereof, in my opinion, of what some recruitment mistakes would have been if we weren’t balancing a new stadium too.

In short, if you’re happy with how the past quarter of a century has been for us then I totally understand why you aren’t bothered about having the millstone removed from our neck that was a new stadium. I tend to think if we had solved that problem in the 90s we would be hugely better off today.
