If Southampton really feel they are better off keeping him I'd respect them for it, just say he's not for sale currently and put a price on him that's totally unacceptable (say £100m).
Its all this dangling the carrot and then moving the goalposts that makes me think they are really all about milking it for everything they can get....fair enough, but Everton shouldn't be the mugs falling for it.
