Anyone on the Kirkby/Ormskirk lines would have to change at Sandhills anyway.

People coming in on the Wirral line can just get off at Moorfields and walk rather than getting on crowded trains that will empty at Sandhills.

It possibly makes sense for anyone coming from Southport/Crosby/Bootle etc. but heading to the match you're already on the train at that point, you may as well stay on till Sandhills? Guess it might be an option for heading home but then you're likely to struggle getting on if they're leaving Sandhills already full?
