Clarkson was (is, couldn’t tell you now) a nasty, boorish, bullying man who exploited his position and status to - often - make a misery of the working lives of a lot of people who worked in and around him who he deemed unworthy.

In any normal, functioning organisation he would have been sacked tens of times over before he got the heave ho eventually.
