Edited by rookwood on July 15, 2025, 4:45 pm The shame for me was the 1990-92 yellow zig zag away repro (original was first shirt I ever had) came out after the Umbro deal ended so it never had the manufacturer on. It also highlights the issues with the Score Draw kits - the EFC badge is too far up the shirt, as is the zig zag. On the others (even the Umbro badged ones) the quality of the sponsor/badge usually isn't great compared to the original. I have a 94/95 home blue repro complete with Umbro but the quality of the NEC is crap compared to the original. Sorry, am a huge merch nerd. People used to slag Umbro but in general the quality (including stitching) was better than what followed. Hummel weren't great, Castore are awful, but Castore's model is cheap gear sold to clubs or sports where upfront payment as part of the deal (e.g. for PSR or solvency) is a bigger part of it than % of sales. That's why rugby clubs (which are basically all functionally insolvent really) increasingly go with them. England Rugby have as well and the quality of the new kit is appalling, but the RFU is in financial difficulties. Umbro used to produce the old style fashion jerseys as well at a reasonable price and excellent quality. With Castore it's £85 for crap. Tbf though the standard of gear generally has massively declined.
It's a condition of the current kit agreements that the only kit manufacturer that can go on an Everton shirt (or any other club) is the current one. So if your current kit manufacturer id the same one as at the time, they do put the badge on (even though the Score Draw repros are actually worse quality than the originals).
See alos Man U. Man Utd were mostly with Umbro and Nike through the 90s, but in the 80s into the early 90s they were with adidas. Now they're back with adidas they've launched a full retro range of the early 90s stuff including the tracksuits with adidas badging, made by adidas.
I collect merch so knew when the Umbro deal was ending to dive in and get some bits with the manufacturer on. The 95 kits in particular also have a lot more detail as 'UMBRO' was sublimated all over them.
